Unruly Crookshank vs unruly Benson

Defying all rules about balance and harmony with his fearless strokes, Matt Crookshank is one of the 60 Painters at Humber Arts and Media Studios, Toronto 2012:

Painterly sculptural Fleming

General Hardware Contemporary artist Joe Fleming's painted sculpture clearly stands out at the 60 Painters exhibition.

Eisler: Tear Here

I first saw John Eisler's works a year ago at his Diaz Contemporary solo exhibition Tear Here.  I was delighted to see his punctured wall reliefs again at the 60 Painters exhibition this past weekend.

Späth's Angle

I love Sally Späth's subtly reflective Untitled Angle at the 60 Painters exhibition.

Legacy

Although my degree of satisfaction usually declines with the scale of group exhibitions (art fairs are particularly disappointing), I must admit that my little hike to the far west of T.O. to see 60 Painters yesterday was well worth it.  The show was very well curated.  Most works are abstract and recent, and they all complement each other.  Colette Laliberté's wall "painting" with black tape, Legacy, got my biggest vote.  Coincidentally, I'm also working on my own wall "painting" with white tape just recently.

Pete Smith's paintings from his current show Blind Carbon Copy are based on still images of an animation he made, also named Blind Carbon Copy, which remixes portions of his works from recent years.

Concrete Island

Just like his monumental sculpture Gold, Silver & Lead, which is still on view at Toronto Sculpture Garden until this fall, Jed Lind's latest show Concrete Island also features various car parts in his modest-sized sculptures.
