Boechler abstraction

"Abstraction is rarely, if ever, purely and resolutely abstract ... the line separating figure and ground is diffused; it is not absolutely sublimated. The Figure resides in an encounter in a living and shifting environment, and within that is a sense of prelude of what is ahead.
