Pleasure Principle Hoxton

Nothing to do with Gary Numan apparently, London's Hoxton Art Gallery is celebrating its first anniversary this summer with a group exhibition The Pleasure Principle, which investigates the mode of 21st century living and contemporary consumerist culture.  The relationship between freedom and necessity in our contemporary existence is questioned by various artists including Steven Dickie:

Et Cetera

Hoxton Art Gallery's current group show Et Cetera explores the notion that meaning and significance can be found in things that are commonly deemed uninteresting or unworthy. Although I won't have a chance to see this exhibition in London, the idea of focusing on various overlooked elements seems rather refreshing in this increasingly repetitive urban life. The show is running until May 24.

New Romantic* Mahoney

All details were omitted in Nadine Mahoney's portraits.  The ghostly shadows of people in Mahoney's paintings are visions of distant memories that come to haunt us from the past. My week-long trip to London finished today. I hope I'll visit this vibrant city again soon.

McCartney's 21st century psychedelia

Although I've been to east London many times, it was my first time visiting this new gallery last week.  Hoxton Art Gallery was having this group show called painting?.  I like Rory McCartney's works the most.  McCartney's new take on the 60s op art/psychedelia has created impactful images by contrasting the organic with the geometric.  Very nicely done.
