Erkmen intervals

Turkish artist Ayşe Erkmen's Intervals currently showing at The Curve of the Barbican is an experiential journey through a series of scenic backdrops, which are constantly being slowly lowered and raised, obstructing and unblocking one's journey through The Curve like walking through different scenes of a play.

New New Order

When I visited London's Saatchi Gallery in July, I saw only half of their show New Order: British Art Today.  Half of their galleries were closed at that time.  I was glad to see the other half yesterday.

Underground 150

Since all art venues were closed on Boxing Day, I took a rare opportunity to roam some busy streets of central London.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the world's oldest underground train, Transport for London's Art on the Underground invited 15 artists to participate in the 15 For 150 project.  The limited edition prints I saw at Piccadilly Circus station yesterday include ...

TfL's ongoing Tube Map projects have also continued to draw big names this year to design their map covers.  Earlier this year, there was Mona Hatoum (the May 2013 edition):

The most recent is Imran Qureshi's December 2013 edition:

Imagined space: paper architecture

The ice storm this past weekend hit Toronto really hard (not just Toronto, but also southern/eastern Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes).  I got cable/internet access back only last night after two and a half days without it.  But I'd consider myself fortunate compared with hundreds of thousands of homes without power.  I'm going to leave those frosted trees and frosted landscapes behind as I'm flying to London tonight.

From the group exhibition Paper previously at Saatchi Gallery, London 2013 ...
