Youds turns on your electric
I almost missed Robert Youds' latest show Turn On Your Electric at Diaz Contemporary. It was its last day of showing when I went to see it last weekend. Youds' works show his interest in colour and light. I can see hints of futurism/vorticism and minimalism.

Vorticist drawings
Vorticism is the Brit's answer to modernism during World War I. The show The Vorticists: Manifesto for a Modern World I saw at Tate Britain this past summer is both educational and inspirational. Works by vorticist pioneers shown at the exhibition are full of futurist dynamism characteristic of this short-lived movement. Since photography was not allowed at the exhibition, I had to do some quick sketches on site.

Pop + minimalism + vorticism + futurism + graffiti art = ?
Newspeak British Art Now at Saatchi Gallery is another good show to see the most current British art. The first installment of the show was shown last summer and fall; the second installment is still on, through spring. I first saw Jaime Gili's works when I went to see the show last December. His works were said to be a mix of pop, minimalism, vorticism, futurism and graffiti art. I don't really care about the labels. It is the geometry that captures me.
