Illusions at the Schloß

Leaving Berlin this morning, I was heading to Kassel, where I would stay for three nights.  Of course, a train ride is best punctuated by a little side trip.  I stopped at Wolfsburg for a few hours to visit its Städtische Galerie, which is inside Schloß Wolfsburg.  Interestingly enough, both Thomas Kiesewetter's sculpture Würfel in the garden and Lothar Götz's installation Don't Look Now inside the galerie did illusionary tricks to the eyes.

Industrial organic Kiesewetter

Thomas Kiesewetter's painted sheet metal sculptures at Saatchi Gallery's latest show Gesamtkunstwerk: New Art From Germany are modernist architectural shapes that bend elegantly like paper.  These interesting forms are industrial and organic in equal measures.
