Twenty One Twelve

Jennifer & Kevin McCoy's apocalyptic new media show depicting landscapes 100 years from today looks strikingly real in the aftermath of hurricane-ridden NYC.

Lying on the floor right next to the exhibits, water-damaged objects from the gallery are a tangible testimony to a real disaster:

Here comes the flood, again

At his solo exhibition Mesopotamian Dramaturgies, Kutlug Ataman's brilliant multi-screen video sculpture Mayhem depicts the cleansing symbolism and the destructive force of water, which take on new meanings after the massive flood in NYC last week.

Tchaparian

Arrived at NYC late last night ... Wonder how my favourite art galleries are doing after two consecutive disasters in just a week - hurricane/serious flooding followed by a merciless snow storm.  I can still see patches of snow right outside my window.  New Yorkers are resilient.  I know they will come back in no time.

Yu's Non-painting Painting

General Hardware Contemporary has quickly become one of my favourite art galleries in Toronto since its opening two years ago.  Its latest exhibition Non-painting Painting by Jinny Yu is a thought-provoking display of Yu's works oscillating between the realms of abstract painting and object.

Gehry Brandenburg

Berlin's Brandenburger Tor is one of the most well-known landmarks of Germany:

Right behind Brandenburger Tor is Frank Gehry's 2000 DZ Bank, an important landmark of Germany's financial landscape.  The building looks pretty humble outside but very extravagant inside:

Metaphysical town squares

I'm a big fan of Giorgio de Chirico's Metaphysical Town Square series of paintings from the 1910s.  Mostly uninhabited architectural spaces with long deep shadows and much emphasized perspectives, they are full of haunting isolation and melancholy.
